Hannah's check-up
Hannah had her 4 year check-up with Dr. E today. It was a very calm and peaceful visit - until the end, but we will get to that later. We arrived at the office 10 minutes before our appointment and got to go straight into a room - which Hannah was not happy about because she did not get to tell the fish in the waiting room hello. She was a wonderful patient for the height, weight and blood pressure check.
Her height is in the 50th percentile and weight is in the 75th percentile. We waited a few minutes and Dr. E came in and she ran to hide from him under the chair. Dr. E proceeded to "play" her game and "search" for her. As soon as he turned his back - she jumped out and screamed. He laughed and really enjoyed it - she gave him a HUGE hug and then he examined her. Noted that she was a star patient and that he feels like her weight is on the higher percentile because of muscle mass - did a strength test with her and was shocked at how strong she was. Everything looked great and he had no concerns at all. Hannah got to pick her toy from Dr. E as always and then during the strength test - he bet her a quarter she wasn't strong enough to pull his arm down - he was wrong and Hannah got a quarter.
Then Joyce (my favorite nurse) returned and we broke the news to Hannah that she was getting shots - it was not pretty. But, Joyce explained that these are the shots that you have to have to go to school. She screamed and complained, but then saw the snoopy bandaids that she got and was a little less dramatic. Joyce (who was trying to get over her guilt) gave her 4 prizes from the prize box, 5 stickers AND 5 rings!!! Hannah made out like a bandit today!
We left the doctor's office with 5 rings, 5 princess stickers, two ballerina dolls, a slinky, a bouncy ball, a bracelet and a shiny new quarter. I think she has decided the four shots were worth all the loot!!

1 year check-up
Seth had his 1 year check-up with Dr. E today! He was such a star for Joyce - the AWESOME nurse that I love!! He walked to her in the exam room and was a stellar patient on the scale. He babbled for her and was quite the little flirt!
His measurements were:
head - 17 3/4 (forgot to get the percentile)
height - 29 1/2 (40th percentile)
weight - 16 lbs 12 oz (still not on the chart)
Dr. E came in and Seth was having NOTHING to do with him today. Screamed through the whole exam. When we started talking, he calmed down and started walking all over the place and "talking" to Dr. E.
So, Dr. E was concerned enough about the weight to push us to further examine what could be going on. He felt that if is was just a small child, his height would be more in-tune with his weight. So where do we go from here? We have an appointment with a pediatric gastroenterologist on April 27th and we will go from there.
Seth met all developmental milestones (we already knew this since mommy constantly checks him). Here is what Seth Thomas is doing at a year:
1. He is walking independently around and is gaining better balance each day (still has to pull up on things, but once he is up he is off to the races)
2. He is beginning to babble and we have heard mama and dada, but not with any meaning attached at this point.
3. He is totally on table foods and is taking whole milk in sippy cups - I threw out the rest of the bottles this week!!!!! Favorite foods are basically anything - I have not found anything he will not eat. He seems to prefer meat and veggies, but loves his fruit as well. The boy loves his pancakes too!
4. He still refuses to hold his own cup - I think we have a stubborn one on our hands. He does like juice - I remember Hannah would not take juice at all and still does not - I think Seth will be my juice drinker.
5. He is figuring out more and more each day how things work and LOVES to take things apart and see how they work.
6. He is a total mama's boy - he loves to cuddle with me in the evenings and usually wants to be able to see me at all times. He does follow daddy around the house everywhere when daddy gets home from work - he misses him for those 24 hours.
7. He is a total flirt - he knows when to turn on his smile and has the greatest little grin!
8. He is sleeping 12 hours at night and takes one nap a day (usually between 1 and 3 hours). He has to have his "monkey" that he has had since birth with him, but when he gets tired, he finds monkey and gets in your lap.
9. He loves the water and bath time is an exciting time for Seth - he has no fear and loves to be in the water splashing - I cannot wait for summer and swimming with him.
10. He loves his big sister Hannah. He chases her around the house and loves to play with her. They tickle each other and chase around the couch. Hannah has really taken to being his big sister and relishes the role! They make a great pair!!

New addition to the family
Seth's first trip to the ER
The Sunday following his birthday, Seth decided to see the inside of Cook's ER for himself. He thought Hannah was having too much fun there without him.
We were cleaning up from his party and planting vegetables in the backyard. We were enjoying the afternoon when all of a sudden I hear a thud and silence followed by a deafening cry from Seth.
I run inside to see that he has a HUGE lump on the bridge of his nose that is black. He is screaming and crying, so off to Cook's we go!
After a short wait, we are taken back and have the ER doctor come in and take one look and send us to x-ray. At this point, they either have a HUGE CPS case folder on us, or they are going to name the new exam rooms after us.
After a traumatic x-ray - they took 6 different pictures, luckily nothing is broken and we are sent home with orders for motrin and no more falls!!
Here is the best picture I got of his nose....

Monkey's First Birthday
Okay - so I am a little late in posting this, but I live by the saying - Better late than NEVER!
Saturday March 21st we celebrated Seth Thomas' first birthday with a monkey themed party. It was a nice day with family and a few friends! I cannot believe it has already been a year since this little gift joined our family. He continues to amaze us with his insight and his ability to take everything apart. He goes in for his one year check-up tomorrow April 7th, so I will post about that tomorrow - I hope!!
Happy 1st Birthday!
